What you get for any Shopify store

Shopify store traffic and visitor sources

Monthly visits, the countries they come from, and the split across search, direct, social, referral and paid. The split is usually more useful than the total: a store living on direct traffic has an audience it already owns, one living on paid stops the day the budget stops, and one living on search has something you can study and copy. Panel data samples rather than counts, so read a small store's number as a band, not a figure.

Shopify store revenue estimate

Revenue and units sold for a 24 hour window in the most recent month we have data for, broken down by hour, produced by our own algorithm. The hourly curve is often the interesting part: where a store's day peaks says which timezone its customers actually live in, which is rarely the same as the country its about page talks about.

How the revenue estimate is calculated

By our own algorithm, reading each store across a 24 hour window and cross-referencing multiple public data sources. We compare its output against stores whose real figures we can verify: it is generally accurate, with a typical gap of 10 to 15%, and some reads match exactly.

How often the numbers refresh

Apps and theme are read live at the moment you search, so they are exactly as current as the storefront. Traffic and revenue are recalculated monthly, which means a store that changed direction three weeks ago will not show it yet. Checking the same store twice in a day serves the cached scan and costs nothing.

Shopify apps installed on the store

Apps leave traces in the rendered page: a script host, a class name, a data attribute, an injected block. We match those against a fingerprint list and name what we are confident about. This is the fastest way to see which reviews, upsell, email, subscription or sourcing tooling a competitor pays for every month, which is a far better signal of what works for them than anything they say publicly.

Shopify theme detected

The theme name and version, and which of the three kinds it is: a free Shopify theme, a paid third party theme, or a custom build. The distinction matters commercially. A paid theme you admire costs a few hundred dollars and you can have it this afternoon. A custom build means the look you are copying came from a budget, not a purchase.

Products, pricing and catalogue size

Product count, and the price band from cheapest to dearest with the average in between. Shape reads faster than any about page: forty products in a tight price band is a brand with a point of view, two thousand across every category at every price is a catalogue play.

Shopify themes

  • Detect the theme behind any store

Paste a storefront and the detector reads the theme object out of the rendered page. It returns the name, the version where the theme exposes one, and whether it came from the Shopify Theme Store, a third party seller, or a developer.

  • Best Shopify themes

Which paid themes the stores worth copying actually run, ranked by how often we see them rather than by who paid for a listing. Not published yet.

  • Free Shopify themes

What Dawn and the other free themes do well, and the specific points where stores outgrow them and start paying. Not published yet.

  • Browse stores by theme

Every store we have scanned, grouped by theme, so you can see a theme running on real catalogues instead of on a demo. Not published yet.

Compare two Shopify stores side by side

  • Gymshark vs Lululemon

Two fitness apparel giants with opposite playbooks, compared on traffic mix, catalogue size, price band and the apps behind each storefront. Not published yet.

  • Fabletics vs Gymshark

Both lean on membership pricing, and their catalogues went in different directions because of it. Same comparison, on the numbers. Not published yet.

  • Vessi vs Allbirds

Two direct to consumer shoe brands built on materials stories, compared on what their storefronts actually show. Not published yet.

  • Browse all comparisons

Every head to head we have built, and the brands with enough search demand to be worth building next. Not published yet.

Track the Shopify stores you care about

  1. Build a watchlist of competitor stores

Pin the stores you keep coming back to so they are one click away instead of a URL you retype every Monday. Not available yet.

  2. Get alerted when apps, theme or pricing change

A competitor swapping their reviews app, changing theme, or repricing a hero product is a decision someone made deliberately. Catching it the week it happens beats noticing it a quarter later. Not available yet.

  3. Monthly change history per store

A running log per store, so you read the direction rather than a single snapshot. Today a store is at X; the useful question is whether X is up or down. Not available yet.

Not a Shopify store?

How to tell if a website is built on Shopify

Some signals you can check yourself in ten seconds: whether checkout jumps to a shopify domain, whether assets load from the Shopify CDN, whether adding /products.json to the address bar returns a catalogue. Others only appear in the page source. The store detector checks all of them at once and tells you which ones matched.

What ecommerce platform is this site using

A no is still an answer. When a store is not on Shopify we name the platform where the fingerprints allow it, usually WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Wix, Squarespace or a custom build, so you leave knowing something rather than nothing. The app and theme detection is Shopify specific and will be empty.

The biggest stores we track by estimated visits, which is a different list from the biggest by revenue and worth reading as such.

  • Biggest Shopify stores

Ranked by catalogue and revenue instead of visits, which surfaces the quiet stores selling expensive things to few people. Not published yet.

  • Most successful Shopify stores

Stores that have held their position across months rather than spiking once on a viral post. Durability is the harder thing to fake. Not published yet.

  • Shopify stores list

Everything we track, grouped by category, for when you want to browse rather than look one store up.

  • Shopify clothing stores

Apparel specifically, where catalogues turn over fastest and the gap between a brand and a reseller shows up most clearly in the data.

  • Recently analysed Shopify stores

What other people looked up most recently, which is a decent proxy for what is getting attention right now. Not published yet.

Why we built TryEcommerceTools

Built for Shopify sellers, not generic ecommerce

Every tool here assumes Shopify. That is a narrower promise than the all platform tools make, and narrowness is the point: because we only have to understand one platform, the theme detection returns a theme name rather than a guess, and the app detection returns app names rather than a list of scripts.

Free to start, credits when you need depth

Checking a store costs one credit, and you get a few with no account at all, because a tool you have to sign up for before seeing whether it works is not really free. Signing in raises the allowance. Nothing here asks for a card.

Pricing and credits

What a free Shopify store search includes

Platform, theme, installed apps and catalogue shape, on any store, without an account. That is the whole scan, not a teaser of it.

What credits unlock

One live scan costs one credit. Looking up a store that anyone already scanned in the last day costs nothing, because the cached result is served instead of hitting the store again. Popular stores are usually free to check.

Plans

Starter, Growth and Scale subscriptions renew monthly or yearly, and one time credit packs keep their credits for a full year. Signing in without paying still raises the free allowance and needs no card.

Shopify store data FAQ

Data and accuracy

Generally accurate, and we measure it: the figures come from our own algorithm, and we compare its output against stores whose real numbers we can verify. The typical gap is 10 to 15%, and some reads match exactly. Every figure covers a 24 hour window, labeled with the month it was sampled in, not a monthly total.

Third party traffic panels, the same class of source behind the well known traffic tools. Panels sample rather than count, so a small store carries far more error than a large one. Treat the shape and the trend as the signal, not the exact number.

Apps and theme are detected live at the moment you search, so they are as current as the storefront itself. Traffic and revenue figures are recalculated monthly.

Sales figures are not. What is public is the storefront: the catalogue, the prices, the theme and the fingerprints the installed apps leave in the page. Everything on this site is read or computed from that public surface, never from anything private.

What the tools can do

Paste the store URL into the app detector. It reads the storefront for the scripts and markup each app leaves behind and names the ones it can match with confidence, along with what each app does.

The theme detector reads the theme name and version straight from the storefront and tells you whether it is a stock theme, a paid third party theme, or a custom build. If it is a theme you can buy, we say where.

Yes, as an estimate, with the country split and the channel split. Estimates on small stores are noisy, so compare stores of a similar size rather than reading a single number in isolation.

You can run the check on any store. If it is not on Shopify we say so and name the platform where we can, so the search is not a dead end. The app and theme detection is Shopify specific and will come back empty.

There is no single flag that proves it. A wide unbranded catalogue, supplier sourcing apps, long shipping windows in the policy copy and stock photography together are the usual pattern. We surface those inputs and leave the judgement to you.

Using the product

A few with no account at all, and a daily allowance that refreshes every midnight UTC once you sign in with Google. The exact counts are shown next to the search box, so there is nothing to guess at.

One live scan of a store costs one credit. Re running a store that was scanned recently costs nothing, because the cached result is served instead of a new scan.

Not yet.

Not yet. Watchlists and change alerts are the next thing being built, so that a competitor swapping apps or repricing shows up without you checking by hand.

About Shopify stores in general

Several million storefronts have been built on the platform, and the live count moves constantly as stores open and close. Any exact figure you see quoted is a snapshot of one crawl, including ours.

The largest are household apparel, footwear and consumer electronics brands. Ranking by traffic and ranking by revenue produce noticeably different lists, so the answer depends on which one you mean.

Anyone can see what your storefront serves publicly, which is what every tool of this kind reads, including this one. Your admin, your customers and your real sales figures are not visible to us or to anyone else.
